When the Lord gives us a commission, and we feel clearly called to a task with our name on it, one that we have patiently and eagerly waited for, we can easily feel overwhelmed with emotion. A mix of joy, excitement, and nervous apprehension can flood us, and our focus often completely centers on pursuing our commission. Eager to please God, we throw ourselves zealously into the work He has given us. With all our attention on doing what God has asked us to do, and how we will do it, we sometimes forget to slow down and think about why we are doing it. Whether it is because of our keen enthusiasm, or because we gradually begin to lose humility, the glorification of God can fade into the background if we do not stay focused on the all-important reason why we serve our Father. Our responsibility in our commission goes beyond service, and extends to giving all the glory to the One who most deserves it. The success of our commission and all that it involves relies not on us or anything that we can do, but entirely on the Lord’s blessing. We can work as hard as we like, spinning our wheels ever faster, and will things in our commission to succeed, but nothing will matter if our Father does not will it to be so and grace our mission with His mercy. Alone we are nothing, and our endeavors are in vain, yet with our Lord we are special, and our mission with Him is allowed to continue by the resources He has given us in His unfailing love and faithfulness. Though we may think we are entitled to some credit for our mission, because of our hard work, sacrifices, or money we may have invested, we must yield the glory totally and fully to our Lord. All that we put into our commission, we first received from the blessings of our Lord, and our mission would not exist without the guidance of our Father. He will not share glory with any human, or idol such as money or possessions, nor will He stand back while we boast, and rightfully He should not. We owe everything to Him, and it is our privilege and honor to glorify our Lord in thanks for the undying love He bestows on us as His children. Not to us, but to our Father goes all the glory and exaltation. If we remember this each step of our walk in our commission, we will remain in Him, and He in us.
