Following the Truth of the Word

Finding a steady source of truth to live by can be difficult in a culture of shifting morals and unsure spiritual footing. Looking to the world for guidance or examples by which to live often leaves us feeling both confused and cynical. This comes as no surprise as the world and the people who live in it are fallible and innately sinful. Yet, there is one shining light that leads the way and stands as a beacon of truth, unchangeable and steadfast through the shifting sands of a fallen world. The word of God that breathes out truth can be held onto as the one reliable source that gives us everything we need. It will teach us something new every time we delve in, give us hope when life seems bleak, and give us peace when we are worried. Most importantly, the Bible is timeless. As the world changes with time and its morals morph to normalize sin, the word of God remains constant in its message. Yet, it proves itself to be dynamic in its ability to be applied in every situation throughout the millennia. If we seek wisdom from the world, we will find that its version of wisdom and truth changes depending on the motivation behind the person speaking, yet if we seek wisdom from the word it endures as the purest form of truth available. It quickly separates wheat from chaff and discerns man’s innermost thoughts and motives, and can empower us to discern truth from falsehood in the world around us. New life and hope is breathed into us as we read, and our spirits become nourished by the enduring and immortal word. Though we may feel lost in the world the power of the word can center us on God, bolstering us to stay firm against our own fleshly weaknesses, and giving us the eternal mindset we so desperately need to swim upstream spiritually when the current flows in a worldly direction.

“For, ‘All flesh is like grass and all its glory like the flowers of the field; the grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of the Lord stands forever.’ And this is the word that was proclaimed to you.” 1 Peter 1:24-25

“For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.” Hebrews 4:12

“Sanctify them by the truth; Your word is truth.” John 17:17
