The winding path of daily life comes to many junctures at which we must make a decision that will sometimes have an impact on the rest of our lives. There are many hazards along the path, and we need a map and guide to help us find the way, stay on the right track, and prevent us from getting distracted and wandering into danger. The first step in the right direction is humbling ourselves and admitting we need His help, reaching out to the Lord by opening up scripture, and realizing that we cannot do this journey alone. His word will illuminate our mind and our path, and if we let Him, He will give us the wisdom to choose the right turn at each fork in the road as we align our will with His. When we are unsure of whether or not we should pursue a goal or what we should devote our time and attentions to, studying His word will reveal in us what we would not otherwise readily notice in ourselves. The deep truths and wisdom of His word are not archaic or distant echoes, but visceral and alive. If we turn toward Him and keep our focus on thanking Him for all that He speaks to us, we find that they are constantly flowing from His mouth to our ears if only we will listen; they transcend time and generations, imparting relevant knowledge and understanding to the here and now. When we ask our Father what we should do in the midst of a decision, studying the word will quickly unveil our motives and innermost thoughts, helping us lay out all that we need to see, whether we like it or not. As we read and soak in His words, He assures us that what He has begun in us, if we follow His will and plan faithfully, will not wither but grow and bloom into all that He has in store for us and those we help.

“For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.” Hebrews 4:12

“For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven and do not return there but water and earth, making it bring forth and sprout, giving seed to the sower and bread to the eater, so shall my word be that goes out from my mouth; it shall not return to me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose, and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it.” Isaiah 55:10-11
