Working For Him With Humility

Our path in life is often littered with jobs we do not want: menial labor we are overqualified to do, unimportant projects that seem to never end, tiresome chores that someone else should have done. Work like this can feel burdensome and painfully slow, and it may seem that the job we have been given does not put our talents to use, and is even hindering us from moving forward and doing something that we feel can really serve God. As we grumble our exasperation over yet another day of seemingly pointless work, we find ourselves wanting to rush through this station in our journey and move on to a more exciting phase. However, when we find ourselves in this frame of mind, we are at the brink of attempting to take control away from God. This is a very dangerous tipping point, as we precariously teeter on the edge of questioning whether or not God is doing His job properly. On this precipice, we may wonder if He is paying attention to what feels like stagnation, or if He needs help from us in redirecting our life and moving it forward to a place where we can really be serving Him. Here, we must stop and humble ourselves by calling on His name. Giving Him our full attention and respect allows Him to gently push us back from this perilous threshold, where we can safely realize that He is carefully managing our life and shaping us for His purpose. Whatever job is set before us is carefully chosen by Him especially for our benefit and His plan for us. When we relinquish control to Him, knowing He is the master of our each and every day, we can set about any task with confidence to the best of our ability. We begin to see that with even the lowliest of jobs we are offered yet another golden opportunity to glorify Him with a job done with eager hands and a happy heart, knowing that we can serve Him in all that we do. Each day becomes brighter as we realize that we are not waiting to serve Him, but rather we can do everything to honor Him from the moment we wake up. Once our mindset is humbled, we can stand as a testimony and a light of His glory. With this humility, we can be prepared for greater things and rewarded in His kingdom.
